MRS utilizes the EM61 system produced by Geonics Limited in a number of applications for the detection of Unexploded Ordnance (UXO). The EM61 provides excellent detail and clarity in data gathering, and our team of engineers ensure that each device is configured to provide only the best accuracy of data-collection for our clients.
The EM61-MK2A is a high sensitivity, high resolution, time domain metal detector suitable for the detection of both ferrous and non-ferrous metal. Typical target response is a single, sharply defined peak, facilitating quick and accurate determination of location. Achievable depth of detection will depend on several target characteristics, with the surface area and orientation of the target of particular importance. A single 200 litre (55 gal.) drum can be detected at depths greater than three metres.
Data from multiple time gates -- three or four, user-selectable -- are recorded to provide a description of the response decay rate, supporting both the characterization and limited discrimination of targets. Data collection is supported by a Data Acquisition System, though MRS uses a proprietary system for recording.
MRS utilizes Geonics EM61 hardware in a number of configurations:
EM61 Cart -The default configuration of the EM61, the cart allows for towing an EM emitter on wheels for rapid and efficient data gathering. While this system is ideal for situations requiring detection where the terrain has very little vegetation, and the ground is level with minimal slope, gathering data using the cart on rough terrain can be difficult.
EM61HH - MRS uses the EM61HH in situations where topography and vegetation would otherwise prevent the use of other detection systems. The "Hand-held" system provides a distinct advantage for pinpointing targets by strength of signal. With a narrower spatial focus than the standard EM61, the EM61HH is relatively less sensitive to sources of potential interference. As a result, data can be collected in closer proximity to cultural features such as fences and buildings. Additionally, the narrower focus provides for enhanced target resolution and, by consequence, improved discrimination of multiple targets.
EM61HC - A proprietary modification to the Geonics EM61 Mk2 system which offers a unique advantage to UXO surveying. Designed to reduce the negative impact of challenging terrain on production rates, this system allows MRS to cover steep slopes and rocky terrain with relative ease. This consequently results in an overall reduction of survey noise levels due to the elimination of any shock-induced false positives.
